An experimental modal testing method for subcritical flow around a cylinder

چکیده

Modal analysis of fluid flows is essential for understanding flow physics and fluid–solid interaction mechanisms implementing control. Unlike unstable flows, the intrinsic stability subcritical has led to failures in experimentally extracting clear structure modes. To this end, paper proposes an experimental modal testing method flows. Using dynamic mode decomposition, dominant modes around a cylinder at Reynolds numbers are extracted first time. The parameters agreement with numerical results literature. It found that first-order stable von Kármán can be observed number as low 19.3, which nearly identical lower boundary vortex-induced vibration. This finding provides evidence correlation between instability

An Experimental Study of Compound Control Method around a Cylinder

In this work, the compound flow control method (passive and active) has been described. EHD actuators as wire-plate (active) and splitter plate (passive) were coupled and applied to control fluid flow and heat transfer around cylinder in cross flow. Investigation consists of the interaction between electric field, fluid flow and temperature field. Experimental tests included various positions o...

experimental investigation of flow characteristics around an elliptic cylinder near a flat plate

the flow characteristics around an elliptic cylinder with an axis ratio of ar=2 located near a flat plate were investigated experimentally. the elliptic cylinder was located on the inside and outside a turbulent boundary layer region whose thickness (δ) is 0.38b. the reynolds numbers based on the height of the cylinder cross-section were 15000 and 30000. measurements of mean velocity and turbul...

Comparison of Solution Algorithm for Flow around a Square Cylinder

Numerical accuracy, numerical stability and calculation time are all important factors in the computational fluid dynamics. In this study, we compare two solution algorithms, the Simplified Marker and Cell (SMAC) method in the MAC-type methods and the Semi-Implicit Method for Pressure-Linked Equation (SIMPLE) algorithm in the SIMPLE-type algorithms, with respect to flow around a square cylinder...

Parareal convergence for 2D unsteady flow around a cylinder

In this technical report we study the convergence of Parareal for 2D incompressible flow around a cylinder for different viscosities. Two methods are used as fine integrator: backward Euler and a fractional step method. It is found that Parareal converges better for the implicit Euler, likely because it under-resolves the fine-scale dynamics as a result of numerical diffusion.

Experimental Investigations of Supersonic Flow around a Long Axisymmetric Body

A series of supersonic wind tunnel tests on an ogive-cylinder body were performed to investigate the pressure distribution, the boundary layer profiles, and the flow visualization at various angles of attack. All tests were conducted in the trisonic wind tunnel of the Imam Hossein University. The theoretical shock angle at different model positions compared well with those we obtained via Schi...
